Join us for a
fun-filled photographic breakaway to Fountainvilla in Klerksdorp and
spend two nights at a superb guesthouse that is a national monument and
boasts the oldest building in the old Transvaal, an original
Voortrekker "huisie" built in 1837.
Nowadays the little house does duty as an intimate, private
restaurant that serves spectacular meals.
A pleasant two-hour drive from Johannesburg, accommodation is
in romantic, self-contained units, furnished with antiques and imported
Balinese and Indian furniture. (Pictures below.)
The main objective is to have fun, while learning to use
your camera. There are countless photographic opportunities right on
the premises and nearby are many historic sites, including the
Anglo-Boer War Military and Concentration Camp cemetery.
Groups are purposely kept small and intimate -- there are places
for only six couples.
You start the evening sipping cocktails in the
newly-built gallery that contains one of the finest collections of
oriental carpets in the country, follow that with a
splendid meal in the restaurant and then quaff more wine and
socialise with new friends, while judging and rating each
other's photographs.
It's a weekend where you'll make new friends, have more fun
than you've had in years and take great pictures. You'll de-stress and
unwind.
The
programme:
Friday:
Arrive in time for cocktails and dinner. During and after dinner you
will be given pro tips on how to use your camera and learn some of the
tricks of the trade to help you make images you will
be proud to display.
You will also be given creative themes for Saturday and be
briefed about the many unique photographic opportunities in the area.
It will be up to you to decide how you interpret those themes. You can
choose to work in groups or individually, whatever you prefer.
Saturday:
After a hearty breakfast get out and shoot pics! Or, if you
prefer, lounge beside the heated pool. This is after all your weekend.
Return late afternoon and enjoy a sundowner and/or swim while your
images get downloaded in preparation for the friendly round of
judging and prize-giving that takes place during and after dinner.
Sunday:
Leave at leisure after breakfast. We suggest you stop at the historic,
student town of Potchefstroom on the way back to Johannesburg and
Pretoria.

Your guide and coach is international
photo-journalist, Hilton Hamann. His work has been published in
